THINGS TO DO
The Naxxar locality is spread over an area of eleven kilometres squared and has a population of over thirteen thousand.
Palazzo Parisio was built in the 19th century by Marquis Giuseppe Scicluna as his own private residence. He enriched the palace with artistic designs, refined architecture and charming gardens.
Naxxar Parish Church: Naxxar Parish church was built in the 17th and is strategically located in the main square of Naxxar. The grand façade of the church is on the baroque style; having a massive bronze door and two clocks, one of which is a painting showing the time as quarter to twelve. On the inside, the main attractions are the painting shows the Birth of Our Lady by Mattia Preti (1613-1699) and the statue of the Vitorja (Our Lady of Victories), which holds a display of precious jewels that the Naxxar people offer the Vitorja in return for answering their prayers
Valletta - Valletta (or Il-Belt) is the tiny capital of the Mediterranean island nation of Malta. The walled city was established in the 1500s on a peninsula by the Knights of St. John, a Roman Catholic order. It’s known for museums, palaces and grand churches. Baroque landmarks include St. John’s Co-Cathedral, whose opulent interior is home to the Caravaggio masterpiece "The Beheading of Saint John.
Prehistoric Temples - The Megalithic Temples of Malta are several prehistoric temples, some of which are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, built during three distinct time periods approximately between 3600 BC and 700 BC on the island country of Malta.
The Hypogeum, -or underground cavity, is a unique monument and superb example of architecture in the negative. To avoid disappointments visits to Hypogeum are best booked well in advance from home prior to the start of your holiday.
Dingli Cliffs - Dingli was named after either the Maltese architect Tommaso Dingli (1591–1666) or his 16th-century English namesake Sir Thomas Dingley, who lived nearby. It's a quiet village with not much to it. But less than a kilometer to the southwest the land falls away at the spectacular 220m-high Dingli Cliffs. A road runs along the top of the cliffs, and it's well worth heading here for some great walks south, past the incongruous radar tower to the lonely little 17th-century Chapel of St Mary Magdalene and onwards to Ta Zuta (253m), the highest point on the Maltese Islands. Here you'll enjoy excellent views along the coast to the tiny island of Filfla.
Mdina and Rabat – Mdina, also known by its titles Città Vecchia or Città Notabile, is a fortified city in the Northern Region of Malta, which served as the island's capital from antiquity to the medieval period.
Mosta - The Parish Church of the Assumption, commonly known as the Rotunda of Mosta or the Mosta Dome, is a Roman Catholic parish church in Mosta, Malta, dedicated to the Assumption of Mary.
The Three Cities - The Three Cities have fringed the Grand Harbour since Phoenician times. Predominantly maritime cities, they have been doorways to commerce, migration, encounters and cultural exchange in Malta’s long history. Today the cities’ atmosphere is captivating and transporting, with the people living within their city walls immensely proud of their heritage.
Golden Bay Horse Riding - With 33 years of experience under our belts, you will be in safe hands. We have a wide range of horses suitable for all ages and riding experiences especially for beginners in particular, since most experienced riders can ride a large variety of horses.
The Mosta open-air market can be visited every Monday morning between 6.30 am and 1.00 pm and is set up in the vicinity of the Mosta Rotunda church in Wied is-Sir Street and Nicolo Isouard Street. Here, you can find various stalls including;
• Many clothes stalls
• Shoe stalls
• Jewelry stalls
• Plenty of household goods.
Some Maltese delicacies and fresh vegetables are also available at very low prices.
Find out about the Sister Islands of Gozo , about how easy it is getting there and getting around.
Steeped in myth, Gozo is thought to be the legendary Calypso's isle of Homer's Odyssey - a peaceful, mystical backwater. Baroque churches and old stone farmhouses dot the countryside. Gozo's rugged landscape and spectacular coastline await exploration with some of the Mediterranean's best dive sites.
The island of Gozo still retains much of it's true character which Malta has lost to development. Stepping Gozo it is like going back in time as approximately 25 years, in fact it is well known as The Island Stood Still.
Beaches - The Maltese Islands are probably most renowned for Sun & Fun in the Mediterranean and the beaches play a big role in the giving the Islands that reputation.
Malta and Gozo both offer a variety of gorgeous sandy or rocky beaches; one may choose a great spot anywhere around the Islands. Even though most of the coast is all natural rock, this does not mean that it is not possible to lie down comfortably as it is often in the form of rock platforms. Access to the sea by means of steps and ladders makes beaching easy. Alternatively you can opt for blue lagoons; golden or red sands are also ideal bathing options. The more adventurous can seek out a secluded cove ideal for snorkeling and often only accessible by sea.
Most people simply enjoy sunbathing near the inviting and warm Mediterranean Sea, but the sportier holiday maker can avail themselves of an assortment of water sports; windsurfing, waterskiing, paragliding, wake and knee boarding - just to mention a few. Beach equipment is easily hired from beach resorts and hotel lidos.
The most popular Maltese sandy beaches are found in the north, picturesque Ghajn Tuffieha and neighboring Golden Bay are sandwiched together between scenic cliffs. Here one can enjoy a hot summers day on the soft sand and let reality slip away as you let every muscle in your body relax. Once the heat has subsided at about seven o'clock this beach offers a breathtaking sunset and a great cliff walk in cooler weather. Further North in Mellieha is Malta's largest stretch of sand - Ghadira beach. If you are around during a full moon, a supper of fresh Mediterranean fish at one of the restaurants situated directly on this beach is magical. Most sandy beaches have a tendency to be over-crowded on weekends, so getting there early and ‘claiming your space’ for the day is advised. ENJOY.
Love, love loved it! Thank you!!
This place was just beautiful! Great people, awesome spot, beautifully maintained, very welcoming and helpful! We will definitely return to this place when we visit again 😀
From the beginning to the end of our 11 night stay we loved every minute of it. Peter and Zef were perfect hosts ensuring each day to speak to us about what we had planned and offered assistance when asked but not pushy at all which we appreciated.
Lovely large comfortable bed and great linen, good pressure in shower . Room cleaned beautifully each day. Plunge pool and sun area great to relax in but be mindful that sun moves on after 2pm. Breakfast was lovely but perhaps for long stays there needs to be a bit more variety added, Just a tip please review your juices( happy with carton juice just make sure it is a good one and the freshness of your cereal, Coffee machine was great especially as you could utilise at all times which was lovely, also great that you can use the fridge to keep a bottle of wine chilled :) . The décor was amazing everywhere you look there is something new to see and chat about with the boys WOW what a collection loved it.
The area has some great restaurants, Brass and Knuckle ( long lunch ) , Planet Pizza ( cheap and good!!) Ta Stringi ( lovely Italian BIG serves so don't go crazy ) Cellini to die for !! The old Charm although small menu ( indian) was lovely Great host makes a grand gin and tonic. There are small shops that sell wine but also on the way to Mosta a large supermarket that has everything for a great cheese/meat platter if you are planning to have a day in :) Little local shops have wine :)
Mosta is walkable but almost two klm not good in the heat, there is a good bus service around Malta but also be aware that sometimes the buses just don't arrive !! so prepare to wait for the next one and have patience.
We would recommend this B&B totally after having been travelling for 3 months in total was a great place to relax and unwind thank you so much to all the staff for making our stay so memorable.
Contact direct for a long stay price was excellent thanks so much guys :)
Excellent stay at Loggia Mariposa. Both Peter and Zef were very helpful providing directions to the beauties of Malta. The place has a lot of charm and the breakfast is good. The location is perfect as a base to explore the island for a few days.
